Har Mar Mall
Outlot 81 and Staples Infill
The Har Mar Mall is one of the first enclosed shopping malls in the Twin Cities. It was built in 1961 and even predates the Rosedale shopping mall. Redevelopment of this
commercial district at the busy Snelling Avenue and County Road B intersection has been critical to keeping Roseville businesses competitive and the adjacent neighborhoods
LKPB provided engineering design services for two redevelopment projects at Har Mar, a Staples infill along Snelling and a north outlot building along County Road B.
Staples, an office products store, occupies about 20,000 SF of the former Har Mar Theatre complex, which operated until 2006. LKPB designed special fire protection for
Staples. The Fire Protection system was classified as "High Piled Combustible Storage" and was protected as "Class I to IV and Group A plastic commodities all stored
12 feet or less in height, in or on a solid shelf". To help meet this classification, the sprinkler heads were installed at a high density, and we were required to
install several large-footprint, "Draft Curtain Smoke and Heat Vents" through the roof, open to the space below.
The former Firestone auto service center was torn down to allow construction of a 6,500 SF outlot building that could potentially house a restaurant, retail stores
or service businesses. LKPB provided engineering services for the shell building, which now features a D'Amico Restaurant and Genisys Credit Union. The project won
a 2009 award from the Minnesota Shopping Center Association in the Category: Shopping Center Under 25,000 SF.
