Since the 1980s, LKPB has provided engineering design services for many projects at the
Como Zoo, including the Large Cat House, Seal Island, and the Polar Bear Odyssey.

The Como Zoo aimed with high expectations when deciding to
remodel their gorilla exhibit. In hopes for an appropriate area
to not only hold a gorilla family, but to also make mating these
endangered species possible, on June 6th, 2013, Como unveiled
the largest mesh gorilla enclosure in North America
The $11 million dollar redesign features 13,000 square feet of
outdoor space, landscaped with ponds, waterfalls, viewing
perches and plenty of natural light and foliage. In order to obtain
this world-class exhibit, major enhancements and expansions
were included to the indoor exhibit and secluded facilities as well
as vital improvements to the ventilation, lighting and drainage.
The exhibit was raised above ground level as both a preference to
the animals and a better view for patrons.
The restructured exhibit is almost three times the size of the
original and is now home to seven happy gorillas: Schroeder,
Dara, Nne, Alice, Jabir, Virgil and Samson.
