Minnesota Army National Guard
Army Aviation Support Facility
Saint Cloud, Minnesota
The Minnesota Army National Guard opened its new $33.5 million Aviation Support Facility in March 2009. LKPB provided mechanical/electrical design services for the
140,600 SF, two-story building that provides maintenance and repair for Chinook and Blackhawk helicopters. Located at the St. Cloud Regional Airport, the building includes
hanger space, shops, a flight operations center, and office areas.
High Expansion Foam Fire
Suppression Test, Feb. 2009
The massive 86,000 SF hanger floor can accommodate six UH60 Blackhawk and six CH-47 Chinook helicopters. The hanger bays have a radiant heat floor system and multiple
heat recovery ventilation systems. A shop area includes welding, painting, engine repair, and avionic equipment repair. A $1 million foam fire suppression system can cover the
hanger floor in just minutes to smother jet fuel fires. The building is served with multiple air handlers utilizing two 60-ton, air-cooled chillers and seven high efficiency boilers.
The facility design utilized Spirit, a military program similar to LEED.
