The new 135,000 SF Davis Family Library at Middlebury College is a landmark structure that serves as a gateway to the campus. The library was completed in 2004 and is a prominent feature on the front campus along Storrs Avenue.

The Library features conference rooms, a writing center, 24-hour study area, reference and help desks, circulation and media desks, media viewing rooms, and government documents and reference collection. A "smart" lecture hall seats 30 people. The special collections and sensitive material areas have distinct climate control. Banks of windows in two traditional reading rooms look toward stunning views of the Green Mountains.

LKPB provided design services for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems that included design of the emergency power, smoke removal, data, audio visual, humidification, chilled water and steam distribution systems. Throughout the design process LKPB was sensitive to the mission of the college in designing a building that is environmentally sensitive and comfortable, as well as energy efficient. The facility was designed to meet a LEED Silver Standard.

LKPB's relationship with Middlebury College spans 20 years. We have completed over two dozen projects for the College. Since 2001 LKPB has been the MEP design engineers for six outstanding projects at Middlebury College, including the Library, that all have sustainable design elements. The projects total $98,000,000 in construction. All projects received rebates from Efficiency Vermont, the nation's first statewide provider of energy efficiency services.
